A History of the Fellowship The local mountain bike landscape is marked by miles of singletrack trails, technical climbs, epic downhills, and creatively integrated natural features. These trails haven’t always been here and they didn’t just happen. Dedicated riders and trail stewards have donated thousands of hours shaping berms, switchbacks, and flowing trails to benefit the greater outdoor community.
In 1996, Hans Jenny entered the mountain bike scene at the urging of his son Jade. What followed were the beginnings of the Fellowship of the Wheel. With the encouragement and support of his son and other eager youth and friends, these early pioneers logged countless hours scratching the earth, learning how to carve and shape trails through the woods around Chittenden County. The first completed and legal project was Mud Pond in Williston in 2002. A 3km lollipop shaped trail with a slow climb and swooping singletrack that quickly became a favorite for riders in the area. Soon after, more trails were built. As the projects became larger and demand for quality riding grew, more hands were needed. Hans and his friends were on to something unique. As the organization began to grow, so did the relationships with landowners, trail advocates, bike clubs and local bike shops. The Fellowship now maintains 8 trailheads and nearly 100 miles of purpose built singletrack. Today’s Fellowship members range in age, expertise, and riding style, but are all linked by a common love of mountain biking. The next time you swing your leg over your bike, remember the incredible effort and dedication of this organization. Show your support with a donation today to help keep our trails among the best in the country. Be part of the Fellowship of the Wheel – build what you ride. |
